Talk about bad luck. While on a rehab assignment for a torn meniscus, Clement suffered a pulled oblique. The former first-round pick hit just .201 through 144 at-bats this year, and his future with the team could be in jeopardy.

Varitek's been on the DL since early July with a broken left foot, and getting him on the field tonight is a great step in the right direction. He'll try to return to Boston as a backup catcher as early as later this week.

Hamilton is complaining that his ribs hurt worse this time than they did after a similar injury a season ago. That means he could miss more than a week, and the area doesn't seem to be healing quickly. Considering he's also dealt with knee and back issues this year, some much-needed rest might be the best prescription.
